Quebec Rent Increase
Calculator — 2026
Estimate the allowed 2026 rent increase using the TAL's new simplified method: a 3.1% base rate plus tax, insurance, and major-work add-ons.
Estimate only. The 3.1% base rate applies to the April 2, 2026 – April 1, 2027 period for notices sent after January 1, 2026. Landlord and tenant may agree on a different amount. For an official calculation, use the Tribunal administratif du logement tool.
How the 2026 TAL calculation works
Since January 1, 2026, the TAL replaced its old multi-criteria grid with a simplified method: a 3.1% base rate applied to the rent, based on average inflation. On top of that, certain eligible expenses are added — increases in municipal and school taxes, insurance increases, and major work amortized over roughly 20 years. This calculator adds those pieces to estimate your new rent.
